Intake No. 1003

The Gothling Orphan Asylum

Ward Assignment: The Unnaturally Affectionate
Status: Available for Adoption
Disposition: Excessively Devoted, Emotionally Unstable, Prone to Unexplained Multiplication

Patient History

Intake No. 1003 first arrived at the asylum as a single, rather unremarkable little creature with an enormous heart and an unfortunate inability to understand the word "goodbye."

The attending matron described the new arrival as pleasant, affectionate, and perhaps a touch too enthusiastic about making friends.

Within three days, there were two of them.

By the end of the week, there were five.

Nobody witnessed the additional residents arriving. No new admission papers were filed. No beds were assigned.

They simply appeared.

Each was a different color, but all shared the same peculiar button eyes, carefully stitched heart, and unsettling habit of knowing exactly when someone was feeling lonely.

The staff initially suspected an elaborate prank.

That theory was abandoned when all five residents were discovered sitting in a perfect circle around an empty chair, patiently waiting for someone who had not yet arrived.

When questioned, the little creatures offered no explanation.

They merely extended their arms.

The asylum's physician has since classified the phenomenon as Spontaneous Affectionate Replication.

The head matron prefers the term "deeply concerning."

Staff Observations

Despite their mysterious origins, the 1003 residents have proven remarkably well behaved.

They are affectionate, attentive, and possess an almost supernatural ability to identify individuals in need of companionship.

Unfortunately, their understanding of personal boundaries is somewhat limited.

Several staff members have reported discovering a 1003 sitting beside their beds upon waking.

One orderly found three waiting outside the lavatory.

Another claims to have heard a tiny voice whisper, "You looked lonely," despite being quite certain he was alone.

Of particular interest is the heart stitched to each resident's chest.

Although identical in design, the hearts appear to respond differently depending on the emotional state of the person holding them.

The physician has requested further observation.

The residents have requested more hugs.

Special Considerations

Prospective adopters should be aware that 1003 forms attachments with alarming speed.

Once affection has been established, separation may result in prolonged staring, dramatic sulking, and the occasional appearance in rooms where the resident was most certainly not left.

The asylum cannot guarantee that adopting one will not attract the attention of the others.

However, no confirmed incidents of spontaneous multiplication have occurred outside the institution.

Yet.

Adoption Recommendation

The asylum believes 1003 would thrive with someone who appreciates unconditional affection, slightly questionable boundaries, and the comforting presence of a companion who will never judge their peculiarities.

Each variation possesses its own distinctive appearance, but all share one rather endearing quality:

They have an extraordinary amount of love to give.

Perhaps more than is entirely natural.

And although the staff remain uncertain how so many came to exist, one thing has become painfully clear.

Every single one is waiting for someone to choose them.

Final Staff Note: The residents of Intake 1003 have been informed that they may not all be adopted together. They have accepted this news with remarkable composure. We are choosing to ignore the six sets of footprints discovered outside the adoption office this morning.

Intake No. 1003 is awaiting adoption.
