The fourth one from the woods.

The staff have stopped being surprised. They have, however, started leaving the intake form on the edge of the table in the morning rather than in the drawer, which is the institutional equivalent of expecting company. He was found the same way as the others — simply present, simply waiting, as if the woods had finally finished with him and released him toward something else without much ceremony.

They call him Stone.

He is the grey of something that has been weathered into its final form — not unfinished, not plain, but arrived. Complete in the way that rocks are complete, shaped by whatever has passed over and through and around them until there is nothing left that isn't entirely necessary. He is large and settled and so thoroughly himself that the air around him seems to organize slightly in his presence.

The black wings folded against his back are his one surprise — worn flat, worn quiet, as if he has them and knows it and has simply decided that today is not a flying day. Perhaps no day has been a flying day for some time. Perhaps the right day simply hasn't come yet.

The single small button at his belly is the most minimal detail in the entire Asylum — one small dark point at the center of all that grey. A period. A fixed point. The thing everything else is quietly organized around.

His X eyes are stitched white on black — present, steady, asking nothing.

Condition: Handmade. One of a kind. Temperament: Elemental. Immovable in the best sense. The kind of permanent that feels like a promise rather than a weight. Special Notes: He has wings he hasn't used. The staff find this either patient or heartbreaking. Possibly both. Probably both.

He has been still long enough. The right person will be the reason he finally opens them.

Once bonded, separation is discouraged.
