The third one from the woods.

The staff have now added a dedicated line to the intake form for this. He was found at the edge of the tree line in the rain — large, blue, entirely unbothered by the weather, that single white button eye regarding the grey sky with the placid acceptance of someone who has been rained on before and found it perfectly manageable. The stitches across his eye socket suggest the other one has a story. He has not offered it and nobody has pressed.

They call him Wade.

He is large — genuinely, substantially large in a way that the ward has not previously encountered — the blue of a rain-swollen river, of deep still water, of something that moves slowly because it does not need to hurry and has the mass to prove it. He settles into whatever space he occupies with the unhurried completeness of something that has never once been in a rush and sees no reason to start.

The pale belly patch is worn and soft — lighter than everything else about him, the belly of something that has lived comfortably in its own skin for a long time and carries the evidence gently. It is not a wound. It is simply where the most of him has always been.

The stitches beside his one eye are neat and matter-of-fact — repaired, held, not hidden.

Condition: Handmade. One of a kind. Temperament: Unhurried. Solid. The specific comfort of something large enough to make you feel genuinely, completely safe. Special Notes: He is the largest resident the Asylum has processed from the woods. The staff suspect he was there longest. He has not confirmed this but does not deny it either.

He came out of the rain when he was ready. He will go home the same way — steadily, surely, to whoever has room enough for all of him.

Once bonded, separation is discouraged.
