He arrived from the woods.

That is what the intake report says and nobody has elaborated further because there is no elaboration that improves it. He was simply found at the edge of the tree line one grey morning — deeply, completely, saturated blue against all that green, two yellow button eyes bright as lanterns, wearing an expression that suggested the woods had been perfectly adequate and he had simply decided it was time to try something else.

They call him Cobalt.

He is the blue of deep water and night sky and things that mean what they say — not the soft blue of Mist or the considered blue of Flannel but something older and more saturated, a blue that has been itself for a very long time and intends to continue. He is substantial. Present. The kind of creature that displaces air when he enters a room in a way that is not threatening but is absolutely noticeable.

The heart on his chest is lavender — lighter than everything else about him, softer, a deliberate tenderness placed at the center of all that deep blue like a clearing in a forest. Two red buttons anchor it with the quiet seriousness of someone who wanted to make certain it stayed exactly where it was.

The stitched mouth is pulled into something — not quite a grin, not quite a grimace. The yellow eyes above it are steady and bright and entirely certain.

Condition: Handmade. One of a kind. Temperament: Grounded. Self-assured. The specific warmth of something that has spent considerable time alone and arrived at good company with itself. Special Notes: He smells faintly of pine. Facilities has no explanation. Nobody is asking for one.

He came out of the woods on his own terms. He'll go home the same way — with whoever was worth coming in for.
