Not the performative good spirits of someone trying to make an impression — the genuine, settled, already-at-home good spirits of a creature who simply woke up that way and has not found sufficient reason to change. He sat down on the intake table, arranged himself comfortably, and looked at the ward with those two yellow X-button eyes in a way that suggested he found the whole thing rather agreeable. The staff waited for the catch. There wasn't one.

They call him Cricket.

He is the warm teal-green of something that lives close to the ground and knows things because of it — not the dramatic green of a statement but the practical, present green of a thing that is simply and completely alive and finds this satisfactory. He is round in the way of something well-fed on good experiences, compact in the way of something that has learned to carry what it needs and leave the rest.

The yellow oval on his chest is his most sociable feature — bright and sunlit, three green buttons marching down it like a small cheerful agenda, the chest panel of a creature who has places to be and is looking forward to all of them. It is the most optimistic thing in the ward and it doesn't appear to be trying.

The stitched smile is the detail that stays with you. Genuine. Uncomplicated. Earned.

Special Notes: He has been observed simply sitting and appearing to enjoy the quality of the light. The staff have no notes on this. Some things are simply nice.

He is not waiting to be fixed or saved or convinced. He is simply waiting for someone to sit down beside him — and find, as he has, that it's actually quite good here.
