Orphan Asylum Intake Form Case No.: 1158 Status: Awaiting Adoption
The hair came through the door like a weather event.
Orange. Curly. Abundant in a way that suggests it has never once been consulted about the matter and has simply done exactly as it pleased for as long as it can remember. The rest of him — green, solid, cross-stitched from chin to belly with the careful record of a creature who has been through things and kept going — arrived beneath it with the settled composure of someone who made peace with the hair situation a long time ago and has not revisited it since.
They call him Rustle.
He is the deep teal-green of something that grows at the edges of things — not the bright green of Spite or the considered green of Sage, but the green of moss on old stone, of ferns at the base of something larger, of a thing that has found its footing in overlooked places and put down roots accordingly. He sits with the compact stillness of someone who has nothing to prove and has arrived at that position through experience rather than disposition.
The red patch on his chest is worn like a mark — not a wound, not a decoration, but evidence. Something happened there. It was tended to. It held. The two red button eyes above his stitched face carry the same quality — bright and direct and entirely unbothered by whatever you make of them.
The stitching down the center of his face and body is the most honest thing about him, which is saying something because everything about him is honest.
Condition: Handmade. One of a kind. Temperament: Grounded. Frank. The kind of steady that was built rather than given and is therefore considerably more reliable. Special Notes: The hair has been observed in slightly different configurations on different mornings. Rustle has not commented. The staff have chosen not to ask.
He has been put back together before. He knows exactly how it's done and exactly what it's worth. He is looking for someone who does too.
Once bonded, separation is discouraged.
