She arrived with her hair already down.

Not loose — arranged. Two long black curtains of it falling on either side of her face, each tipped with a small skull bead that caught the intake light with the quiet authority of something that dresses for every occasion, including this one. She was white as a blank page and twice as considered, those two large white button eyes fringed in dramatic black lashes looking out at the ward with an expression that managed to be simultaneously wide-open and entirely unreadable.

They call her Séraphine.

She is white — the deep, velvet white of something that has made a complete commitment to its own palette and sees no reason to introduce variables. The black falls through her and around her in curtains and lashes and dripping trails beneath her eyes, the two colors in constant, deliberate conversation, neither one winning, both of them entirely the point.

The black beneath her eyes is the detail that lands — two slow trails running down from those enormous lashed buttons in the particular way of something that has felt things at considerable depth and has stopped pretending otherwise. It is not distress. It is disclosure.

The heart on her chest is black — large, stitched, anchored at its center by a single small skull that matches the ones in her hair. She accessorized the heart. She found them. She placed them. All three skulls are in agreement.

The X below is small and white and the only bright point on an otherwise entirely committed composition.

Condition: Handmade. One of a kind.
Temperament: Composed. Deeply feeling beneath the surface. The kind of gothic that is not an aesthetic but a native language — spoken fluently, without effort, from the inside out.
Special Notes: The skull beads arrived with her. They were already in her hair. The staff have not touched them. Some things are clearly exactly where they belong.

She dressed for whoever was coming before she knew who that would be — skull beads, long hair, lashes, a black heart at her center. She has been ready for a very long time.

Once bonded, separation is discouraged.
