He was already crying when they found him.

Not audibly. Not dramatically. Simply sitting in the precise center of the intake table, pale blue and perfectly still, two grey button eyes leaking black down his face in slow, deliberate trails that had clearly been going on for some time before anyone arrived to notice. He did not appear distressed. He did not appear to want anyone to do anything about it. He simply sat with it — the way someone sits with something they have carried long enough to stop being surprised by its weight.

They call him Drip.

He is the blue of something that has been rained on — not stormy, not dramatic, but the soft, persistent blue of a sky that has been overcast for a while and has made its peace with that. The black runs from his eyes in twin trails, meeting at the heart on his chest — a dark, dripping heart, melting slightly at the edges as if it has always run a little warm despite everything.

The small bat perched at the crown of his head are his one unruly note — everything else about him is composed, settled, contained. The solitary bat suggests that something, somewhere beneath all that composure, has opinions it hasn't entirely finished having.

His eyes don't match in size, which gives him the expression of someone in the middle of a feeling too complex to name with one face.
