The lights in the intake hallway seemed brighter the morning she arrived.

Facilities checked the bulbs. The bulbs were fine. The brightness was her.

She is yellow — not cautiously yellow, not apologetically yellow, but the full unfiltered yellow of something that generates its own light and has never once considered dimming it for anyone's comfort. She sat down on the intake table and the whole ward felt approximately fifteen degrees warmer. The staff noted this. Several of them came back on their days off to check.

They call her Solar.

Her eyes are pink and lashed and enormous, fringed in blue like the edges of a flame, the kind of eyes that don't so much look at you as illuminate you — finding angles and corners you didn't know you had and lighting them up without asking permission. The wild dark hair cresting her head sparks upward as though charged by something internal and ongoing.

The heart on her chest is blue — deep, cobalt, serious in the way that only things surrounded by that much yellow can afford to be serious. Three yellow buttons march down its center like a small formal procession, the only orderly thing about her, and somehow the most endearing.

She is the loudest color in every room. She has never once been the loudest voice. She simply shines and lets that do the talking.

Condition: Handmade. One of a kind. Temperament: Radiant. Unhurried. The kind of warm that gets into your bones before you notice it happening. Special Notes: The ward is measurably greyer on days she seems subdued. The staff have not told her this. They feel she probably already knows.

She doesn't need anyone to complete her. She's already whole. She's simply looking for someone to orbit.

Once bonded, separation is discouraged.
