He is easy to overlook. He knows this. He has made his peace with it.

Small and grey and settled low to the ground, he arrived without announcement and took up exactly as much space as he required and not a fraction more. The staff noticed him only because of the eyes — two large pink and blue buttons, disproportionately vivid against all that quiet grey, the visual equivalent of someone who speaks very softly but has genuinely extraordinary things to say if you lean in close enough to hear them.

They call him Pewter.

He is the grey of something dependable — worn smooth, neither flashy nor forgettable, the grey of river stones and old pewter and things that have been handled with care over a long time. He sits with his arms slightly forward, not reaching exactly, but available. Open to the possibility without insisting on it.

The chest patch is where it gets interesting. Blue — a deep, serious blue — and set into it a yellow heart stitched with small careful marks, bright as a yolk, warm as something lit from within. It is the most colorful thing about him and it is absolutely intentional. Whatever Pewter is on the outside, that heart is the editorial correction. The clarification. The part that says: don't mistake quiet for empty.

He has been overlooked before. The staff can tell by the way he doesn't seem surprised by it anymore, only patient.

Condition: Handmade. One of a kind. Temperament: Understated. Steady. The kind of loyal that doesn't announce itself and never has to. Special Notes: He is small enough to be missed in a first pass of the ward. The staff have started placing him slightly forward on his shelf. He has not commented on this but seems, on the whole, to appreciate it.

The best things are often the ones you almost walked past. He has been waiting for someone who looks twice.

Once bonded, separation is discouraged.
