He doesn't cry. That's the first thing the staff want you to understand.

The red running from his eyes is simply him — two white-ringed eyes, bright and X-marked and absolutely direct, bleeding color down his face the way some people carry their history written plainly on their features. He arrived with it. It was already there. He did not appear distressed about it then and he does not appear distressed about it now.

They call him Weep.

He is black from head to toe — the deep, total black of something that absorbs everything around it and gives back only what it chooses. Arms wide, legs out, perfectly centered on his intake square like a man who measured before he sat down. The long red seam running down the center of his chest is stitched with the careful precision of someone who was taken apart at some point and made absolutely certain the repairs were done right.

He is small. He is still. He is watching you with those two enormous dripping eyes in a way that is not threatening and is not sad and is not asking for your sympathy — it is simply present, fully and without apology, which is more than most residents manage and more than most visitors are comfortable with.

The staff have noted he seems calmer when the ward is full of noise. Like the chaos of others is a kind of company he understands.

Condition: Handmade. One of a kind. Temperament: Unflinching. Self-possessed. Oddly comforting once you stop trying to fix what isn't broken. Special Notes: He has never once looked away first. The staff have made their peace with this.

He isn't weeping. He's just wearing everything he's been through right where you can see it. That takes more courage than most.

Once bonded, separation is discouraged.
