Orphan Asylum Intake Form Case No.: 1127 Status: Awaiting Adoption
The previous institution didn't put a reason in the transfer paperwork.
They simply sent him along with a sealed envelope that nobody on staff has opened, a set of horns that cast excellent shadows, and a small red heart bearing an x that he wears not over his chest but slightly to the side — as if even his sentimentality has an agenda. The jagged grey goatie suggests he readied himself for the occasion and has strong opinions about presentation.
They call him Hex.
He has horns — two sharp ones flanking a magnificent dark mohawk that lists slightly to one side in a way that implies either great confidence or complete indifference to what you think about it. His eyes are deep crimson buttons, the color of old wine and bad decisions, and they hold your gaze just long enough to make you feel like you've agreed to something.
His mouth is stitched in a wide, tooth-edged grin that the day staff find charming and the night staff find less so.
He is not malicious. The staff are clear on this point. He is simply aware — of the room, of you, of exactly how much space his horns take up and the precise effect they have on people who weren't expecting them.
The heart with the x is the part that matters. It's small and it's red and it's there, worn openly despite everything else about him suggesting he'd rather you not notice it.
Condition: Handmade. One of a kind. Temperament: Magnetic. Theatrical. Quietly devoted beneath considerable pageantry. Special Notes: The sealed envelope stays with him. We feel it's his to open, when the time is right.
He isn't here by accident. He never does anything by accident.
Once bonded, separation is discouraged.
