He arrived with his collar already pressed.

That was the first indication that this one was different. Not different in the way that requires extra paperwork and a call to the director — different in the way of someone who has very deliberately composed himself before walking through the door and intends to be taken seriously from the first moment. Black suit. White collar. A magnificent dark mustache that the staff have not once seen out of place.

They call him Edgar.

He is pale-faced and wide-eyed, with the particular expression of a man who has witnessed tremendous darkness, processed it thoroughly, and turned it into something with structure and meter and a very specific aesthetic. His dark hair falls across his forehead in a way that suggests either careful arrangement or poetic suffering — possibly both, as these things are not mutually exclusive.

The heart on his chest is red and deliberate, bearing the silhouette of a raven — black, perched, permanent. Not decorative. Biographical.

He sits with his hands folded, watching the room with those enormous pale eyes, composing things internally that he may or may not choose to share with you depending on whether he finds you worthy of the verses.

He has been told he is a lot. He considers this a compliment.

Condition: Handmade. One of a kind. Temperament: Brooding. Brilliant. Surprisingly warm once you survive the first impression. Special Notes: He will quote things at you. Long things. From memory. The staff have learned to set aside time for this.
