He was standing when they found him.

Arms out. Wing up. The enormous black eyes catching the light like a dare. He had the posture of someone who has just walked into a room and is giving it a moment to adjust to him rather than the other way around. The staff took a collective breath. Vex did not notice, or noticed and considered it a reasonable response.

They call him Vex.

He is electric green in the way that certain things in nature are electric green — a color that functions less as a shade and more as a warning, or an announcement, or both simultaneously depending on how you feel about that sort of thing. The single bat wing cresting from his shoulder catches air when he moves, which the staff have clocked as intentional showmanship and he has declined to confirm or deny.

Three green buttons march down his black chest panel like a military decoration for a war nobody else was invited to. His tiny stitched mouth is a perfect composed line. His one visible eye misses absolutely nothing.

He is small. He stands like he isn't.

Condition: Handmade. One of a kind. Temperament: Assured. Self-possessed. Occupies a room from the center outward. Special Notes: He has been observed simply standing in the dark hallway at 3am, arms out, completely still. Nobody has asked why. The answer feels like it would require sitting down.

He isn't waiting to be chosen. He is waiting to see if you're interesting enough to choose him.

Once bonded, separation is discouraged.
