He preceded himself by about three feet of loose wrapping.

The night staff followed the trail of unraveling gauze down the hallway of Ward 4, around the corner by the supply closet, and found him at the end of it — standing perfectly upright, arms spread wide under all those draped layers, mismatched eyes staring forward with the calm of someone who has already been through the absolute worst and has come out the other side with surprisingly decent posture.

They call him Gauze.

He is, to put it plainly, held together. Technically. The wrappings are part of him now — grey and gauzy and trailing at the edges like a wedding veil that has seen considerably better days. Beneath them, stitched and weathered and absolutely not letting any of it slow him down, is a red heart that reads like a declaration. SPOOKY — not a threat, not a warning. More like an announcement. I'm here. I made it. Surprise.

His eyes don't match, which is the least surprising thing about him. One is wide and white and startled. One is deep red and utterly unbothered. Together they form the expression of someone who has already had the scare of their life and is now mostly just curious what comes next.

Condition: Handmade. One of a kind. Temperament: Resilient. Unhurried. Impossible to rattle — for obvious reasons. Special Notes: The wrappings are not coming off. The staff tried to tidy them once. He was noticeably less himself afterward. They were put back.

He has already survived everything that tried to stop him. He is simply looking for somewhere to finally rest.

Once bonded, separation is discouraged.
