He arrived already written on.

That's the first thing you notice — the markings. Scratched across his chest in unsteady ink, words and symbols that the staff have spent considerable time attempting to decipher. Whether it's a name, a warning, a claim, or simply something he needed to get out, nobody can say for certain. He isn't explaining. The little X below it all suggests the whole thing is, at least in his opinion, signed and settled.

They call him Scribble.

His eyes don't match — one yellow-green and searching, one deep black and absolute — which gives him the permanent expression of someone working through a problem they haven't quite solved yet. The stitched marks beneath his nose read like whiskers, or tallies, or both. The staff stopped trying to count them.

He is soft. Genuinely, disarmingly soft — the kind of pale that makes you think of blank pages and fresh starts and things not yet decided. Whatever was written on him doesn't define him so much as annotate him. Notes in the margins of something still being written.

He sits with his hands pulled close to his chest, thinking thoughts he hasn't found the right words for yet.

Condition: Handmade. One of a kind. Temperament: Contemplative. Peculiar. Full of things worth figuring out. Special Notes: The writing on him was there when he arrived. We didn't add it. He won't say who did.

Some stories are still being written. This one's looking for the right person to hold the pen.

Once bonded, separation is discouraged.
